Eldorado was a bit of a disappointment really and it was all down to Ya’Mo and his bloody Live Elements. It was a nice enough idea though: get a DJ with some live musicians to warm up your crowd, with bongos and drums, a real violin and a singer. Why not right? Well, because of the wretched bongo, oh the horror, the only bongo song I wanted to hear was Zongamin’s Bongo Song. And I did get to hear it, with some live bongo noise on top but it would have been nice if they had stopped right there and then. It must have been around 1am, but no, they continued for two more hours. The DJ playing tunes and the musicians playing along. And all the while the only thing I could hear was Bongo Noise.
In the end it became so boring it almost totally cleared the dancefloor, not a very good sign if you ask me. Going to the other room was not really an option because I think I hate R&B even more than bongos added to every song. Result: relative boredom until 3am. Then there was the highly anticipated DJ-change and we could finally get into a more serious groove. And so we did. Which sort of made everything ok in the end, but when you go to a party you don’t expect to be bored out of your tits for the first three hours. No More Bongos Please!
There was one plus though: the Moira look-a-like who was rather cute. Yes, you read it correctly: there was a Moira look-a-like at Culture Club last Friday. How about that. (Thank GoD she didn’t bring Jenny.)
