I guess it really was a matter of too many different parties on the same night because the turn-out for Just Another Party (Cat Club meets Birth Control) was rather disappointing. I think there were about 50 people there and that’s kind of painful of course. This was also the reason why I never got the feeling that the party actually started. And the DJs weren’t exactly playing spunky and upbeat tunes. I’m not saying the music was bad, I just felt that they should’ve quit warming up a bit sooner, like around 1am instead of 3am. And when Lady Jane finally started it was 4am, on a regular Saturday night I would have stayed but after having roamed the streets of Brussels for an entire day and with a trip to Ghent to look forward to, well, it was time to go home. This was a shame because the music was really picking up by then and the small crowd was really starting to get into the groove.
The verdict is very simple: not enough people present. And it’s not really the organizers’ fault because I actually thought it very brave to throw a more alternative party the evening of the Gay Pride. In theory it was a good idea. I guess the competition was too fierce. A real pity.
Next Cat Club: July 7th.
